The Best Beeswax Wraps for your Money

The Best Beeswax Wraps for your Money

Beeswax wraps are a phenomenal zero-waste swap because they negate the need for plastic wrap forever. But which beeswax wraps are the best? I've done the heavy lifting by trying out what's currently on the market; I'm giving you the reasons why I absolutely adore my favorite brand, too.

Which beeswax wraps are actually worth your money?

_____

Beeswax wraps are the new and innovative zero-waste solution to saran wrap. (How great would it feel to never buy plastic wrap again? Beeswax wraps make that possible.) But with so many different options on the market, choosing the best beeswax wraps can be daunting.

I’ve tested countless varieties so you don’t have to. In this article, I’m outlining which beeswax wraps stand out from the rest; I divulge exactly how I use them in my own kitchen, too.

But first, have you tried to make beeswax wraps at home before? (If you haven’t, don’t.) Making beeswax wraps at home is a slow process compounded by the sad truth that DIY versions of this zero-waste essential lose their “stick” over time, which renders them useless.

As a sustainable minimalist, I’m really picky. I work hard at being a conscious, intentional consumer  and I don’t buy often because unnecessary purchases hurt our planet. They create excess clutter, too.

That said, I still buy things. But my purchases must always pass 4 criteria:

1. It must be eco-friendly.

The product must come from a company with a well-documented dedication to sustainability.

2. It must be useful.

The product must improve my life (or my loved ones’ lives, if it’s a gift) in tangible ways.

It must aid my daily zero-waste efforts in ways that nothing I currently own can satisfy, too.

3. It must be well-made.

I have no interest in purchasing cheap products that will break within months, so I take care to make sure that what I buy is long-lasting and durable.

4. It must make sense financially.

I’m always hunting for quality products that are utilitarian, unique and sustainable — and the good news is that there are tons of them out there.

The bad news is that very few are budget-friendly. (High-quality, reusable products tend to be expensive!)

Want to invest in quality beeswax wraps, but don’t want to shell out a bunch of money for a name brand with so-so reviews? Look no further than Humble Shapes.

Humble Shapes are the best reusable beeswax wraps on the market.

_____

I’ve tested a dozen commercial beeswax wrap brands and Humble Shapes are my favorite, by far. Here’s why:

They save money

_

When you store food in plastic wrap, Ziploc bags and tin foil, you are renting.

Think about it. Investing in single-use items is similar to renting a house, and that’s because you pay a monthly cost to resupply, all the while creating garbage.

I used to spend $5 a month – or $60 a year – on the disposable stuff.

But after I purchased Humble Shapes wraps at $18.97 as a single upfront cost? These days, that $60 stays in my wallet.

I appreciate that – for the price – my beeswax wraps come in a pack of 3, each of which are varying sizes that work well with my unique food-storage needs.

They last a long, long time (but they don’t overstay their welcome)

_

Humble Shapes manufactures beeswax wraps made from durable (yet biodegradable) materials.

I’m particularly impressed with the quality: Humble Shapes don’t tear, don’t show significant wear and I’m able to wash and reuse them with ease.

But while they’re built to last, they’re not made with materials that damage the environment when they break down (ahem … plastic).

To keep my beeswax wraps lasting for years and year, I make sure to keep them away from heat sources like hot water, the stove and the oven. I clean them under cool water then let them air dry; I store them folded in the refrigerator, too.

They make a great gift

_

I believe less is almost always more, and that’s why gifting loved ones is often a challenge for me.

But as a sustainable minimalist, I love showing my family and friends how easy eco-friendly living can be by getting them started with simple zero-waste swaps.

I have been giving these beeswax food wraps to friends and family as part of a “simple life starter pack” because – while they’d like to ditch plastic wrap – my loved ones just wouldn’t invest in beeswax wraps for themselves.

The consensus? Since switching to Humble Shapes, nary a single friend or relative misses the single-use plastic stuff.

They wear many hats

_

Humble Shapes makes the best beeswax wraps because the opportunities for reuse are endless. While some brands are too sticky and others aren’t quite sticky enough, Humble Shapes boast the perfect amount of stickiness.

I use the largest (14″x13″) and middle-sized (11″x10″) wraps to cover bowls, sure, but the smallest wrap in the box (8″x7″) is perfect for holding berries, pretzels and other snacks in my children’s lunchboxes, too.

These beeswax wraps are free of harmful plastic and I feel good knowing I’m wrapping my family’s food in 100% natural and organic materials.

Another way I use Humble Shapes wraps? I bring two large sheets directly to the bakery counter at my local supermarket, then I  kindly request that my bread be wrapped in my wrap instead of a bag.

The best beeswax wraps and the bottom line

______

Starting a sustainable food storage practice is easy with Humble Shapes beeswax wraps. They’re the most durable and versatile wraps on the market; they’re at a manageable price point, too.
