10 Minute Tidying Tricks for Aspiring Minimalists

Short on time? Busy moms, rejoice: Small efforts reap BIG results. Here are 10 *new* ways to declutter, tidy + minimize in 10 minutes or less.

10 minute tidying tricks for aspiring minimalists

There’s a big problem with minimalism. Worse, no one’s talking about it.

While minimalists boast increased mental space, extra free time + decreased anxiety, the process of actually becoming a minimalist requires EXTRA mental space, a TON of free time + OVER-THE-MOON anxiety.

That’s because completing a whole-house purge the way the gurus suggest is really, really hard.

I’ve learned something powerful by stealing time, and it’s this: Lots can get done in just 10 minutes.

Here’s where to start.

Grab the Time-Saving Checklist

50 moms divulged their biggest time-saving secrets when cooking, cleaning + doing laundry.

They offered a boatload of savvy household tips, too.

The Time-Saving Checklist is a FREE 5-page document with the best tips and tricks around. Snag it here:

1. Go through your closet and sift out anything ripped, torn or tattered.

Don’t attempt to donate items that aren’t in good or very good condition. Repurpose the non-donatables, if possible.

Did you know? You can happily compost items made from natural fibers (just rip them up before putting them into the compost bin!).

2. Pick one room and clear all the surfaces.

There’s something refreshing and transformative about clean, clear surfaces. So pick a room and go at it.

3. Attack the catch-all space.

In my house, the catch-all space is a random built-in desk in the kitchen. It’s the place where we throw the mail. Our keys. Etc. Clean yours up.

4. Rid your fridge of expired items.

Remember that expiration dates are just guidelines. If something is slightly passed its date but looks and smells just fine, move it to the front of your refrigerator and eat it next. (Alternately, create an Eat-Me Box for items nearing expiration to reduce food waste.)

5. Disinfect + Sanitize your kitchen counters.

Extra Credit: Use a homemade, toxic free cleanser.

6. Remove apps from your phone you no longer use.

7. Empty the junk drawer.

As you clean, place like items together + find homes for absolutely everything inside the junk drawer. Going forward, you’ll no longer have a need to keep a junk drawer at all.

8. Clean wallet or purse of unused items.

A friendly tip when it comes to receipts: Politely decline them. They’re printed on thermal paper which means they aren’t recyclable. They contain BPA, too.

9. Fill a basket with items to put away later.

10. Tackle the baseboards.

Wet a rag, add soap + run around the house in your socks. It’s fun, too!

Nature As Medicine

Are we treating the symptoms of modern life while simultaneously ignoring our habitat?

The average American now spends 93% of their life indoors. But humans evolved for millennia alongside the natural world, and research suggests that our indoor lifestyle is disrupting our sleep, focus and long-term health.

You don’t need a gym membership or expensive workout gear to get your health back on track. On today’s show, Dr. John La Puma argues that all you need is a 17-minute dose of nature, every single day.

Here’s a preview:

[4:00] Modern medicine tends to prioritize intervention over prevention. But why?

[7:30] We’re taught to fear the outdoors, but indoor living can be directly harmful in ways we’re only beginning to understand

[11:30] Why it’s time to view “screen time” as “ultra-processed time”

[16:00] Exactly how a daily dose of morning sunlight resets insulin sensitivity, hunger timing, and prefrontal cortex function

[30:00] Outside exercise is better for you than inside exercise, so take your movement outdoors!
