_____

3 years ago, Alli Owen embarked on a journey to pursue a lifestyle more aligned with her values.

*

She + her husband minimized their expenses, saved 70% of their incomes + left their high-powered jobs. Then they converted a van + aptly named it Clifford.

*

These days they travel the Americas in their Big Red Van, help others get clear on their financial goals + show them how to achieve them with gusto.

_____

Three questions Alli asks herself prior to making major life changes:

_____

1. Do I trust myself enough to know that I will be able to make money again?

2. Do I believe in this vision?

3. Have I prepared adequately?

Alli’s suggested first steps for anyone looking to tidy up their finances:

_____

– Get brutally honest with yourself: Where are you spending your money?

– List what brings value to your life. Determine where you are versus where you’d like to be.

– Convert stuff you aren’t using into financial wiggle room by selling it.

– Find opportunities to side hustle.

– Get on the same page with your partner + conduct monthly budget reviews together.

Resources Alli mentions in the episode:

_____

To retire early: Mr. Money Mustache

To walk dogs during lunch: Rover + Wag

To Track Expenses: Mint

Notable quotes from the episode:

_____

“What everyone else is doing with their money isn’t what we want to do.”

“We refuse to let our salaries inflate our lifestyle.”

“By minimizing your stuff you create space in your life and freedom for you to do things that actually bring you joy.”

“At the heart of it, being a minimalist is about being intentional.”
