The Best Reusable Sandwich Bags for your Money

The Best Reusable Sandwich Bags for your Money

Eco-friendly living has a reputation as being reserved for the privileged and that’s because - when making the leap from a disposable product to a reusable one - there’s often a hefty upfront cost. But it doesn’t have to be this way. I've tried all the reusable sandwich bags on the market and here's what I think.

The best reusable sandwich bags for your money

_____

Eco-friendly living has a reputation as being reserved for the privileged and that’s because – when making the leap from a disposable product to a reusable one – there’s often a hefty upfront cost. But it doesn’t have to be this way, and that’s why Ziparoos are the best reusable sandwich bags on the market.

[Note: While this is a sponsored post, all opinions are my own.]

The affordability factor

_____

I’ve tried countless zero-waste snack bags and Ziparoos are the only ones that check off all the boxes: affordability, adorability + durability.

But my favorite feature – by far – is the price.

Products labeled “sustainable” or “eco-friendly” are often significantly marked up, but this isn’t the case with Ziparoos snack and sandwich bags.

Ziparoos’ 5-bag set is just $9.99; a comparable 5-bag bundle from Stasher is a whopping 49.99$. (Even better, there’s a 10% off discount code below!)

Going reusable is infinitely more affordable in the long run, too, and that’s because single-use items require you to be a constant consumer.

Don’t believe me? Here’s what Ziplock-specific disposability looks like in real life:

Let’s say my family of 4 currently uses 4 Ziplock bags each day (one per family member) each weekday. That’s 80 bags a month or 960 baggies per year.

At 13 cents apiece, my family wastes $124.80 per year on disposable Ziplock bags.

Crazy, right?

Even if I washed out and reused them, know that in this scenario I haven’t considered the gallon bags used to store food in both the refrigerator and freezer.

The bottom line is this: You may be wasting incredible amounts of money on single-use bags when you don’t have to.

You may also be sending an incredible amount of plastic to the curb each day (which then overflows our landfills and suffocates our oceans), too.

_

Although Ziparoos are incredibly affordable, the quality is still there. I appreciate how well my 5-piece set withstands heavy, daily use.

And you know how Ziplock bags rip just below the zipper after repeated use? That doesn’t happen with Ziparoos. They are thick, durable and are made with an expertly-designed closure system that my daughters (who are not at all delicate) tear open with impunity.

The adorability factor

_____

Although it can be hard sometimes to be the kid with the different-looking lunch (think: cloth napkin; glass containers; steel spoon), my Kindergartener takes pride in the reusable bags in her lunch box.

That’s because Ziparoos boasts adorable designs that are exciting to kids; they’re adult-friendly, too.

Ziparoos features two collections:

1. Nautical: Anchors, waves, seahorses + more: This bag set was thoughtfully designed to remind us of the importance of preserving our oceans.

2. Earth Friends: Ziparoos’ newest collection urges us to use our collective power as consumers to preserve the planet. Greens, blues and yellows maintain the aesthetic of the collection and remind us to “clean the seas, save the bees, [and] plant more trees”.

Other reasons why Ziparoos are the best reusable sandwich bags on the market:

_____

They divert countless single-use bags from the landfill.

Reusable sandwich bags means my household creates less trash. This is important to me, as trash reduction is a critical component of eco-friendly living.

They are safe for my family.

Ziparoos bags are made from FDA-grade PEVA and are PVC-free, BPA-free and lead-free, too.

They are multifunctional.

Although Ziparoos are an essential feature of my daughter’s zero-waste lunch box, I also use them to store non-food items. (Without Ziparoos for organization, my car console would be a nightmare!)

Because bags are sold in a variety of sizes (from snack-sized to gallon), I can always find one that fits my unique organizing needs.

They are leakproof.

The double-lock closure works as well if not better than their disposable counterparts, so I don’t have to worry about accidental spills.

They are freezer-safe.

I’m often asked how it’s possible to freeze food without Ziplock bags. The answer is Ziparoos.

If I’m freezing banana bread, let’s say, I first wrap it in wax paper then store it in a Ziparoos gallon-sized bag, taking care to remove as much air from the bag as possible (I like to suck out extra air with a straw).

Next, I write its contents directly on the bag with a dry-erase marker (which easily comes off when washing).

Zero-waste freezer meals for the win!

They are easy to clean.

Thanks to their transparency, it’s easy to clean the inside with a bit of soap and water. And because the material is so strong, Ziparoos bags stand up nicely in the dish drainer to dry. Just make sure not to put them in the dishwasher!

Ziparoos gives back.

Ziparoos gives 10% of profits to charity, which appeals to me as an ethical consumer.

They make ethical gift giving easy.

I try to give ethically during the holidays and a major way I do so is by giving consumables. This Christmas I’m baking cookies and packaging them in Ziparoos.

The bottom line: There are many reusable snack bags on the market, but Ziparoos offers the best value for the price.
