Cleaning with Green Products? Here’s How

Cleaning with Green Products? Here’s How

Tired of comparison shopping? Got yourself a hefty case of choice fatigue? Here's how to find the best eco-friendly cleaning products on the web.

The best eco-friendly cleansers: Cleaning with green products

_____

Is it me, or is being interested in cleaning with green products not enough? Indeed, searching for + researching eco-friendly cleansers can be an utterly exhausting process.

It’s no surprise that advertisers use the buzzwords eco-friendly + clean on some not so eco-friendly + some not so clean products.

Indeed, finding the right products for my family often feels like a full-time job.

But not anymore.

Cleaning with green products starts at Clean Goods

_____

For years I’ve toyed with the idea of making homemade laundry detergent from Borax + baking soda, but the fear of destroying my washing machine is real.

Choice fatigue is real, too, so I’ve stuck with a fragrance-free, “gentle” version of a big name brand for longer than I’d like to admit.

But I knew I could do better.

I’ve been incrementally switching my products over to non-toxic alternatives; the day finally came to find a detergent aligned with my values once + for all.

I headed over to Clean Goods for a natural + organic detergent; bonus points if I found an option easy on my wallet, too.

Something I didn’t expect but got anyway? A stress-free shopping experience.

_____

Research has found that, when consumers are presented with fewer options, they make better decisions than when presented with many.

The Clean Goods website greeted me with a manageable number of curated products: Currently, the site offers 11 different detergents. (On Amazon, a search for clean laundry detergent yields over 7,000 results.)

It was pleasantly simple to differentiate between the 11 choices, mostly because Clean Goods had already done the heavy lifting for me: The site rated each + every product on the bases of purity, performance + price.

As a shopper, I appreciated that all the information I needed to make an informed purchase was in a single place + on a single webpage.

I spent just 5 minutes comparison shopping. In the end, I purchased GreenShield USDA Certified Organic detergent, rated 8.7 overall and sub-rated 10, 8 + 8, respectively, for purity, performance + price.

The Clean Goods algorithm determined that Amazon sold my desired detergent at the lowest price; as such, Amazon shipped my item directly to my front door.

My organic laundry detergent arrived in just two days.

I felt confident I had made an informed purchase; I slept easy knowing that my dollars went to a product safe for both my family + the planet.

One area of improvement

_____

As a sustainable minimalist, I observed one drawback to the Clean Goods model as related to packaging:

Product Packaging

Their curated products are mostly packaged in plastic. Only one detergent – a concentrated powder – boasts a cardboard box.

Shipment Packaging

As is the nature of online shopping, my product arrived in excessive packing material. (It’s important to note, however, that Amazon packaged + shipped my order.)

More reasons why I love Clean Goods for cleaning with green products

_____

Clean Goods does the up-front work for me.

The men + women behind the scenes aggregate data from user reviews, user product descriptions + ratings from the Environmental Working Group (EWG) so I can spend less time comparison shopping + more time living.

Clean Goods rates products based on the ideals I care about most.

The easy-to-understand rating system is divided into 3 parts, including:

Purity: How clean the product really is

Performance: How well a product really works

Price: How cost effective a product is compared to others in the same category.

Clean Goods is user-friendly.

The website offers fewer choices, not more. As a result, comparison between products is easy as pie.

Clean Goods finds the best price for my order automatically.

Clean Goods fulfills my order through trusted retailers like Walmart, Target + Amazon based on the lowest cost to me.

Orders arrive quickly.

Because my order is shipped directly through major retailers, it’s on my doorstep, stat.

Clean Goods is the easiest way for busy families to shop clean.

Clean Goods is all about making my shopping experience easy. The rating system makes it simple to compare products, while product details highlight important individual attributes.
