The health of our planet affects the health of humans. Here's how + what we can do about it.

Humans are sick + are getting sicker. So is planet Earth. 

Our health as a species is intricately linked to the health of our planet. Indeed, perhaps the most concerning aspect of greenhouse gases, polluted oceans + shrinking ecosystems is that – ultimately – we have manufactured an environment unfit for human life.

My guest this week is Dr. Stephen Hussey. He’s a chiropractor, health coach + author who’s on the podcast to outline concrete action steps for reclaiming our health + helping Earth in the process.

  1. I’m not a science person admittedly, but why is a chiropractor speaking on evolutionary biology? What are “toxins” he speaks of? He never defines them. Also, he speaks of “chemicals in our environment” but never addresses that everything is a chemical, including water. He never quotes any research or studies done which leads me to believe this is bad science.

    1. Kristal, thanks for your comments. It’s nearly impossible to address everything Dr. Hussey covers (including the multitudinous research he cites) in a 30 minute podcast interview, although I do try! I’d suggest you check out his book (it’s digital). Perhaps he better addresses your concerns in its 265 pages.

    2. Yes, thank you for your comments. I believe that my book does address all of these concerns. I have 65 research studies cited in my book. I could have used more but chose not to because I did not want the book to bog readers down talking about study after study. Also, before you put all your faith in research you should read books written by Dr. Ben Goldacre.

      The toxins I speak of are heavy metals (lead, mercury, arsenic, aluminum, cadmium), chlorine, flouride, bromide, pthalates, parabens, BPA in plastics, oxybenzone, Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA), Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA), and PerchlorateDecabromodiphenyl Ether (DECA), to name a few. These are toxins that have been mined out of deep in the Earth starting in the industrial revolution or have been synthetically made in a lab by us humans and therefore were not present in the millions of years of evolution that took place before they were put into our environment. Due to this they have no role in our physiology and are very disruptive to normal physiology. Obviously when I said “chemicals in the environment” I was talking about the toxic ones, not the natural ones.

      Becoming a chiropractor involves intensive study of human biology, you should check out the curriculum. I merely combined what I learned in my medical education with my own extensive study of evolution and ecosystems. There are other people who have come to similar conclusions, most notably the Harvard evolutionary biologist Daniel Lieberman.

      I just want to help people find ways to heal themselves and preserve the Earth at the same time.
