Eco Conscious Christianity

Eco Conscious Christianity with Lisa M.

Meet Lisa from Adelaide, Australia. Lisa is a long-time podcast listener who believes that eco conscious living is the ultimate expression of her Christian faith. She excels at reducing carbon emissions from transportation (her family only has one vehicle, and it’s an electric car), but she has trouble cutting down on soft plastics.

In our conversation today, Lisa imparts the hopeful truth that one person has the power to change the trajectory of others’ lives.

Here’s a preview of our conversation:

[3:00] The Australian bushfires of 2020: Were they are wake up call, or are they an unfortunate thing of the past?

[14:00] Why Lisa believes that having children is an expression of hope

[15:40] Tangible ways to impart eco conscious values onto our children

[18:45] Practical ways to build up barriers to purchasing (without feeling deprived)

I’m so excited for you to meet Lisa!

[A note from Stephanie: This is the first episode in a 5-episode series that features podcast listeners just like you. My goal with these bonus episodes is to highlight real people—their real successes, their real challenges—as they seek simpler, more intentional existences.]

Eco conscious living helps the planet; its the ultimate expression of religious and spiritual faith, too. Here's why.

  1. Really excited for this series where you talk with some of your listeners! This episode in particular seemed similar to your interview episodes, but you mentioned trying out a more casual approach for this series. I enjoy listening to your interviews, but also looking forward to hearing more casual conservations!

    1. Thank you for this feedback, Celena. I’m over here thinking I’m super casual, but it seems I have work to do! I’ll keep working on it. Thank you!

Labors Of Love

Last year was the hottest year on record, so it's safe to say that Earth Day as we traditionally celebrate isn't working.

On today's show I suggest what I believe is the antidote to the climate crisis (and I'm willing to bet you won't be able to guess what it is!).

Here's a preview:

[3:45] The Big 5: We know what we should do environment-wise, so why aren't we doing it?

[7:15] Communal care is anti-capitalist, and that's really darn important

[16:30] Here's what research finds re: the relationship between collectivist culture and pro-environmental behaviors

[24:00] If the problem is disconnection, is the solution as simple as authentic reconnection?

[34:00] It's actually not hard at all to pivot from the conventional, negative feedback loop we find ourselves currently in

* A note from Stephanie: No Headlines Friday, and Tuesday's episode will be out next Wednesday!
